MISSION

Lighthouse Consulting, LLC will be known as the premier independent Property Underwriting audit firm in the industry by combining portfolio and transactional underwriting skills for the benefit of reinsurers and insurers.

Lighthouse Consulting, LLC was formed in 2007 to provide Bermuda reinsurers with high quality, in depth property underwriting audits. Since that time we have expanded our audit services to include Catastrophe Data Quality Audits, and have added a consulting service to assist insurers with acquisitions, underwriting practices, and strategy evaluations. We audit all types of commercial property insurers, including HPR, National Accounts, and E&S. We also audit personal lines insurers and have expertise in the Florida market.

Here is a short description of our services:

  • Underwriting Audits: Bermuda treaty reinsurers use Lighthouse to perform annual audits of their U.S. cedants. The audit typically involves three days of file reviews and interviews at the insurer's office. Special attention is paid to risk selection, pricing (including an in depth review of the use of catastrophe models) and account handling. We have also worked with Internal Auditors to provide a third party technical audit on specific business units.
  • Catastrophe Data Quality Audits: In response to the growing concern in this area Lighthouse developed an audit that evaluates both the data quality and the data process used by insurers. Reinsurers benefit by reducing the uncertainty associated with catastrophe data, and insurers benefit from the recommendations offered for improvement.
  • Acquisitions: Lighthouse will evaluate the underwriting quality of the company under consideration against industry Best Practices.
  • Underwriting Practices and Strategy Evaluations: Assignments in this area include assistance with line setting and facultative reinsurance, evaluation of a new attachment point strategy, and a claims file review in support of a commutation proposal.

We bring over thirty years of technical property underwriting experience, including extensive catastrophe modeling experience, to our assignments. Our goal is to provide our clients with the highest quality assessment and at the same time provide meaningful recommendations to the company we are auditing.
